WWII has devastated America, and the world, more than any of us could every have expected. This war has developed into a new class of warfare, where the United States must protect itself and its citizens more than ever. That is why Franklin D. Roosevelt has developed the Office of Scientific Research and Development, or OSRD for short. We are and elite group of scientists in charge of contributing in the war effort by protecting our soldiers and our country through the development of new technology (Danzer 567). And if I may say so myself, our work has changed warfare forever.

I am the head of the OSRD and in charge of over 6,000 scientists ("Vannevar" 1). Before I became a scientist for the OSRD, I invented such things as four-engine bombers, decoding machines for the navy, microfilm readers, the justifying typewriter, a 100-ton machine that could quickly solve complex mathematical problems, and a prototype analog computer, but this is my biggest project yet. So far, the OSRD have developed radar and sonar for detecting submarines deep underwater. This alerts an area of an attack before it even happens (Danzer 567). We have also encouraged the use of the pesticide DDT. Not only has this saved many soldiers from the diseases transmitted by bugs, but also for the first time in history, our soldiers have almost no cases of body lice (Danzer 567). One of our greatest discoveries however, is the "miracle drug" penicillin. This has saved many of our soldiers from infections, and will hopefully save citizens of the United States for years to come as well (Danzer 567). Our latest achievement though, has outdone the rest drastically.
Recently, we received word that a German scientist succeeded in splitting a uranium atom, releasing huge amounts of energy with a destructive force beyond what any human has ever seen (Danzer 567). Thanks to a letter from Albert Einstein to President Roosevelt, we were warned of the possibility of the development of a nuclear weapon (Tatarewicz 1). Under the supervision of FDR, the Manhattan Project was created. Hundreds of thousands of scientist worked all across the country in extreme secrecy to develop the atomic bomb (Tatarewicz 1). Right now, we are still working on a perfected model of our plan. In a few years, we will hopefully develop an atomic bomb and end this war for good. The OSRD has provided countless contributions to the world so far, but the atomic bomb and the top secret Manhattan project are sure to be out greatest.
